The Dream (2012)

Our 2012 theatre project was our ACE funded work ‘The Dream’. Created through a 3 month process of Research and Development we explored aerial possibilites including counterweight harness and taking our musician into the air.

‘A dramatic dreamscape unfolds as we tumble into a bizarre reality of distortion, misproportion and enchantment. Three characters exist in a world of playful confusion, where gravity has lost its power, sound is suspended and beauty inverted. A visual feast of exquisite obscurity and humour, Zu play with perception leaving you wondering which way is up and where the dream ends and reality begins.’

“The counterbalance was amazing, props were clever, spectacular!”

COUNTERPOINT (2011)

After our sell-out performance at Brighton Pavilion in 2008 we hosted COUNTERPOINT, a compelling evening where dance theatre met new circus. Zu invited two extraordinary dance companies Avatara Ayuso and Flatfeet dance company to present fresh exhilarating work both live and on film.

Here we premiered our 2011 work ‘Me Myself and You’ – ‘a mesmerising duet combining finely crafted choreography with edge of seat aerial skills. In this brand new production, two women jostle for position, trying to find their place within a landscape constructed from the intricacies of relationships. A work of exquisite   physicality and great beauty.’

‘Me, Myself and You’ was also shown as part of Jacksons Lane Theatre Postcard Festival, June 2011.

“Me, Myself and You is an accessible, contemporary piece of dance circus with a well directed narrative, which is interwoven seamlessly with the strong aerial work displayed”.

RED… (2006)

This physical theatre and aerial dance duet toured throughout The South East in 2006, selling out at Brighton Pavillion.

Through a diverse programme Zu invited audiences to an exciting evening where they experienced the inner world of Zu. ‘Under the spotlight two heroines proceed with desperate tantrums, dramatic skill, meticulous box ticking and magnificent loss of dignity. RED… is an ingenious and absurd exploration of behaviour.’

Deft choreography combined with brutal & acute comic observation, Zu broke the mould of cabaret, aerial circus and visual theatre to produce the truly unclassifiable and completely entertaining RED.
